Initial Consultation
All services begin with a 90 minute initial consultation*, where we learn more about your behavior goals and take a detailed summary of your dog's history and current behavior needs. This consult also gets you ready to begin training immediately! Homework training plans are included. * The Puppy Right Start does not require a separate initial consultation.
Training Session
These 60 minute sessions are designed to follow a training plan that was developed in the consult. This includes live demonstrations, careful instruction, and homework summaries. We personalize your plan to optimize training sequences and maximize learning! Training sessions utilize check-ins via email and feedback to follow your progress.
Day Training
This 30 minute guided session allows you to participate weekly in the training process! We install the behaviors outlined in your consultation, such as recall, leash reactivity, focus, puppy socialization, etc, while you are present and involved. Training is a step by step process, and this weekly service can be booked any day of the week, from once per week to every day. This service does not come with homework afterwards, unlike the Training Sessions above.
Puppy Right Start
This 2 hour stand-alone session quickly addresses the needs of puppies 18 weeks and below. We cover potty training, daily enrichment, acquired bite inhibition, socialization, handling, foundational cue training, alone time skills, crate training, name recognition, and recall. The Puppy Right Start is a great way to start your pup off on the right paw and ensure the right behaviors are installed to build a focused, happy, and enjoyable adult dog! OPTIONAL ADD ON: Breeder Selection: *Price Varies* - If you want a dog but aren't sure which breed works best for your lifestyle, or have a breed in mind but don't know where to start looking, this is a great add on! We strongly recommend the Puppy Culture protocol and can help you identify a breeder committed to these standards.

Melissa is friendly, professional, flexible and very communicative. I just love the daily text message reports of how things went during her visit with the puppy (and my 3yr old dog too). She has even worked on training them to be polite before going outside. She has made our new puppy period much less stressful. I enthusiastically recommend Melissa for your fur babies!

While other walking services can get the basic job done, what sets Melissa apart is her experience as a trainer. Finn, my young poodle mix, has been fear-reactive since he was a pup, and through Melissa's training and walking sessions he has become a more confident and relaxed dog. Melissa also provided a complementary training session to teach me the techniques that she uses with Finn so that I can continue to work with him in a positive way that helps him to overcome his fear. I couldn't be more pleased with Melissa's services and highly recommend Cultivated Canines.

Melissa takes such wonderful care of our kiddos! Her knowledge of positive reinforcement training is especially valuable to us, as I am a pet care provider as well and am particular about the methods used with them. She knows how to keep our giant senior pups happy and healthy, and I know they love spending time with her! It's so comforting to know they are in such caring and knowledgeable hands. I would highly recommend Melissa to absolutely anyone!

I took the Focus Package from Melissa for my beautiful boxer Zoe. She is about 2 years old and very sweet but had no obedience training and her attention was all over the place. Melissa knew just how to get her attention and how to nudge her into behaviors that were required. Within minutes Zoe was responding to training. Practicing on my own continued to be successful. Success is a great motivator. When you and your dog meet Melissa you will be impressed by her confidence, positive attitude, and innate love of dogs. She has a wealth of information and a perspective that makes training so much easier and pleasurable for the owner and the dog.

Melissa is awesome. She is the second dog trainer I hired after unsatisfactory methods and results from another company. I have an 8 month old shepherd that was rescued off the streets in Iran named Nia. Nia's resource guarding, aggressive tendencies, and uncontrollable barking had me worried that we may have to find a more suitable home for her away from so many other dogs and people. Melissa's training methods are kind and effective. Nia can now nicely share treats with other dogs, walk past other people on our walks and sit down when the front door opens and not bark. I could not be happier with the results!

Melissa is AMAZING with our 1 yr. old Great Dane Lucy. She not only walks her and tires her out, but she teaches her new commands and manners that are so helpful when walk her as well. We recently adopted Lucy, so she's had some separation anxiety and can be temperamental with other dogs, but since Melissa has walked her and taught us how to modify her behavior, she has shown tremendous improvements! Melissa is also readily available and responds quickly, which we appreciate. Very professional yet also personable. We are lucky to have Melissa in our lives - Lucy especially!

I work a lot and my 3 yr old mixed breed border collie/ Formosan was at home in a condo. Melissa started walking her twice a day. Ana is shy, but now meets Melissa at the door and is out of sorts if Melissa takes a vacation, which we have now outlawed. No vacations for Melissa, Ana loves her too much! We had some training that needed to be done, and the methods that Melissa uses are positive, consistent and successful! I would highly recommend Cultivated Canines, you won’t be disappointed and your pup will be very happy.

We adopted Daisy a 3.5 year old Border Collie mix last November. She had separation anxiety and was very hard on leash. Melissa worked very hard with her for the last few months and we are seeing lot of positive changes. She is now very nice on leash, even my wife who was not confident of taking her alone for walk, can easily take her on long walks. Her separation anxiety is getting better. All this with positive reinforcement training. The best thing about Melissa is she understands what is needed and what is happening very clearly. It's very easy to discuss issues with Melissa and she gives due respect to what we want and what we can do to make things better. Her observation skills on dog's behavior is detailed and very much to the point.

Melissa has been walking my somewhat antisocial poodle, Sheldon, off and on for several months now when my son is unable to do it. Never once has she missed an appointment. She always texts me to provide a report on how the walk went each day and on how Sheldon has behaved. Sheldon is very shy with new people and he fell in love with Melissa almost immediately! In addition to possessing a high level of reliability , Melissa is a great dog trainer. The improvement Sheldon has shown on leash and in keeping focused during walks is amazing. Since day one we have entrusted her with the key code to the house. She has my strongest recommendation for your business.

Archie, a 6-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier is randomly dog and people reactive. He also gets very upset when people come to the door or into the house. Melissa came highly recommended by our dog walker. We have been working together for the last 4 months to get Archie more relaxed and less reactive. Melissa is a great communicator and works with you and your animal at your own pace to create a deeper and stronger connection and work towards lasting shifts in behavior. I feel like I have an ever-increasing set of tools and resources. I receive thoughtful and creative answers to the questions and concerns I bring to Melissa. Archie has shown great progress and, more important to me, is very engaged in all of our training sessions and exercises. I feel that I have an increasingly stronger and clearer sense of who he is and how we can best grow and learn together.

Melissa came into our home and into our hearts like fresh air that helped us all breathe again. She was qualified to work with our behaviorally complicated dog and us. She had the best attitude. She paid attention. She was realistic in her assessment of Chica and in what we could hope to see change. In the time that Mellissa has been with us, Chica has blossomed. Her tail, once low and tight to her body, is now up, moving side to side. She has a wag that turns into a wiggle. We have Melissa's skill as a trainer, her heart of gold, her perseverance and patience to thank for Chica having a good quality of life.
